sitecore design component guide
Part of my role as a UX Content Designer is to create documentation for the plethora of tools, systems, processes, and best practices that surrounds the content strategy ecosystem. I enjoy this process because it not only allows me to teach and train others, but also makes me go through the complete process of trying to understand and explaining it in a digestible form for my intended audience.
I’m happy to share a design component guide that I’ve been working on for a few weeks for Sitecore. The purpose of this document is to show visually all of the components users have access to in Sitecore, and give a description of what they can do.
What I included:
Introduction and purpose of the design guide
Table of contents
A short guide of the types of containers
Screenshots of all of the components with a short description
Do’s and Don't’s - for all of the components
Links to additional resources
There are several different containers that correspond to certain components, so it’s important to point this out.
Some of these sections show an “in progress” status and are questions I need to ask members of my team to fill in the gaps. What’s great about creating this in Microsoft Sharepoint is that my team members can edit this as updates to the components are fixed or modified.
As I create more documentation, it’s given me a perspective on how many pieces fit within the whole content strategy and how a content strategy can differ so drastically from one company to another. I’m so fortunate to work with such a skilled UX team and web team to collaborate, learn and iterate! It’s been a skill-building activity every time and a chance to interact with so many teams for input.
