octopus.do
Every now and then I discover a tool at work that makes life so much easier. I was introduced to Octopus.do a few weeks ago, and have used it twice to whip up quick examples of a revised information architecture (IA). It’s so easy to use, and I can see a lot of use cases besides just reconfiguring website architecture.
It’s very easy to start a new project, and add different categories or pages to the structure. You can also add notes, SEO tags, have conversations, and share/work simultaneously with other users on your team. The color coding is great to show new pages or distinguish content. It’s also clean looking, and a great user experience (UX) for adding new pages, or moving things around.
Work Example
Below is an example of a revised IA that I created. The top is the current IA, and below is the proposed IA. We needed to quickly show leadership how adding new pages turned into dividing more of the content into parent pages and child pages. For example, categories like “print” didn’t make sense to fall in line with “integrated campaigns,” so we created a parent page for it called “admissions & enrollment materials.”
And, yes my icon is Dylan McKay from Beverly Hills 90210. We were asked to choose a person for 90’s sitcoms for our profile. Luke Perry was always my favorite. :)

📺 What I’m Watching: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) (to be fair, this is on repeat at my house because my son controls the TV, but it’s cute and the Superfly character played by Ice Cube is hilarious!)
